Guiding Philosophy

Our Vision of working together to be life long learners is underpinned by our belief that all children will have the best possible opportunities for learning at Pirongia School.

At Pirongia School, we are focussed on building positive relationships with every student and every staff member. This is essential for the learning partnership we must have for optimal learning to take place in our school for students and teachers.

Our work on the New Zealand Curriculum has focussed us in on the fundamental values and principles and the Key Competencies that guide the way we make decisions in our school, not just for learning, but also for the way we manage behavioural issues in our school. We have high expectations for the way our students interact with their peers and all other students, and staff in the school.

Here at Pirongia School we have the following shared values and beliefs:

CODE OF CONDUCT:At Pirongia School we have the fundamental beliefs that:

  • all children have the right to learn uninterrupted by other children
  • all teachers have the right to teach
  • all children have the right to interact positively at our school without physical, emotional or verbal abuse from others
  • all members of the school have a responsibility to look after the school environment and equipment for the benefit of all.

EVERYONE WILL SHOW RESPECT FOR AND WILL BE ABLE TO CO-OPERATE WITH OTHERS BY:
  • listening to what people have to say
  • not interrupting others when they are talking
  • using people's first name or preferred names
  • replying in full when spoken to
  • when addressing adults, use title: Mr, Mrs, Miss, Ms
  • respect other peoples' belongings and school property
  • help other people when they need it
  • use manners when speaking to people, e.g. please, thank you

EVERY PERSON VISITING PIRONGIA SCHOOL WILL BE MADE TO FEEL WELCOME BY:
  • being greeted in a cheerful, polite manner
  • an attractive environment
  • maintaining an "open door" policy
  • invitations to participate in school activities
  • having individual needs/backgrounds recognised and catered for
