In the first term while the sun is shining we go out swimming. During this time we learn new strokes, like backstroke and breast-stroke, as well as learning how to do proper race starts.
We also send a group of year 6 students to leadership day. This is run by team energize. However, not all our leasers got to go, we have to leave some pretty awesome leaders behind.
In the first term we visit Harold and Niki in the Life Education truck and we learn about the affects of our choices.
Of course we learn lots of stuff in class to do with reading, writing and mathematics. Here is our video to summarise the first 4 weeks of school this year.
Congratulations to our young farmers, what a bright future you have ahead of you.
Pirongia students really stood out this year at leadership day. Team Energize made sure everyone had a great time learning about communication, fair play, friendships and participation. Competing against 10 other local schools our school placed overall first and second. As they worked their way through various team building games, students were able to practise important skills that leaders need to develop. Part of that was listening and encouraging their team mates. It was a privileged to be with an outstanding group of students. Well done everyone.
It was awesome having Nikki and Harold come and teach us about how our body works. We learnt to make correct choices about how much sugar we put into our bodies. It is o.k to have a 'treat' every now and then, but treats shouldn't be every day! If we want our bodies to be the best they can be, then we need to make sure we are feeding them the right fuel and making sure they get the right exercise.
We had great fun visiting the Waikato Museum and learning about the amazing inventor, philosopher, artist Da Vinci. Learning about him helped us to realise how we can become great.
It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things. (Da Vinci)
A great evening had by all. Kahikatea team was in charge of the 'sweet stall, bat a rat and hammer the nail. We had great fun providing fun and laughter for our whanau and friends. Thank you PTA for helping us make it such an enjoyable evening. And a special thank you to our parents who came along and supported us raising money for our new school sports shed.
Our first day at school 2016 began with a Whakatau to welcome all our new students. We truly hope they grow to love this school as much as we do.
To help out our PTA it is our turn to help supply a healthy lunch on Friday. We are making waffles and fruit salad.
We all had a great time learning new cricket skills with Shane from Kiwi Cricket.
Caught up in all the action. This is a day we get involved in making our school more environmentally friendly.
Room 10 sorted out the sports gear and tidied the sports shed.
Room 7 and 9 'reused' wisteria cuttings to make hanging woven decorations
Room 8 weeded and tidied our school vegetable gardens.
An amazing day for our year 6 leaders who took part in the "Survivor" Leadership Day.
It's great to be me.
