About our school...
Pirongia is a country school, but not a small one, having usually about 300 children enrolled.
We have large and beautiful grounds, studded with ancient trees and including an adventure playground, a magnificent L-shaped 25 metre pool, huge playing fields, an astro-turf court, generous sealed areas, a large hall and a well-stocked library.
We are close to the Waipa river which flows just west of Pirongia village and beyond the river, the mountain itself smiles down upon us all day while protecting us from the worst of the westerlies.
The mountain, which gives its name to the school and the village, is very much part of the psyche of the school. It helped us to shape our school motto "Together We Climb," or "Pikia To Tatou Maunga"
This is why we devote a special page of our site (click here to see it) to drawings, photographs, and paintings of it.
The Mountain is also part of our beloved school mural which has another special page devoted to it. (click here to view)
And it lies at the heart of our school flag which can be viewed here.
Pirongia is a school with a long history having been founded in 1873. We celebrated our 125th anniversary in 1998.
